Closet Organization Revamp- Progress

Well as I mentioned last week, I am currently working on my closet organization. This week I managed to empty out every last one of my bins and inventory every last one. It was quite the process as I'm sure you can imagine but it finally has been sorted through! I had 20 boxes total- 20. That is an insane amount, and definitely too many for my poor closet to be constantly storing. They were filled with many things; Christmas decorations, kitchen items, photo albums, books, childhood memories, etc.

I sorted through each one, pulling each and every item out and laying them on the floor. I couldn't believe some of the items I had stashed away and truly didn't need. Particularly the number of random cups I had mixed in with my kitchen stuff. How often will I ever use my Six Flags travel mug? Never. I only bought it to have a HUGE soda, I will definitely not carry it around with me anytime I go to Six Flags in the future, so it had to go. Same with a shot glass from a college I've never been to that my friends bought me back in high school.

I made a list of all the items in each box, and numbered the boxes so I would know where to find everything I could possibly need to look for. In the past I have gone looking through several boxes in order to find a vase and I don't want that to be the case in the future.

While I sorted, I found plenty of items that could be better placed in different boxes then they once were. So I took them out of their current box and moved them to different ones.

I took a ton of pictures of the changes I made as the days went on...New boxes started to appear in my room...

and that closet wall started growing emptier and emptier....

My pile of items to donate grew as well...

Almost empty!

Now that all the boxes have been inventoried, numbered and moved into the attic, I am going to work with what's left in my closet. Nothing has been moved from the opposite side yet, and some of it will definitely be getting donated along with the items I have already removed. Some things in my closet will just have to find a new home as well. I know from glancing at the other side of my closet that my snowboarding gear will probably get moved into the attic as well since I haven't used it in years. I don't want to get rid of it in case I do go snowboarding or skiing, but for now it doesn't need to be in my closet!

I'll be back with my finishing touches and after tour!
